Aku Louhimies
Aku Louhimies is an award-winning director and screenwriter known for his films interpreting reality beautifully, yet truthfully. Over the past decade, his films have established him as one of the preeminent directors of Scandinavian cinema today.
The works of Louhimies, who is accomplished in both film and television, have consistently garnered attention and praise both domestically and internationally. Included amongst his nine feature films are the European Film Award nominees 8-Ball (2013) and Frozen Land (2005). Louhimies also directed the five-part event series called Rebellion (2016) about the birth of independent Ireland. One of his most recent work Unknown Soldier (2017) is an epic World War II film based on the best-known Finnish novel. Louhimies is the director, producer and a writer of Unknown Soldier.
His most recent works are Finnish action thriller Attack on Finland (2021) based on Ilkka Remes’ 2006 novel 6/12 and The Wait (2021) which is based on the novel by revered Finnish author Juhani Aho and is also the first ever carbon negative feature film production.
As a dedicated father of five, Louhimies is passionate about using the medium of film for socially and environmentally constructive purposes.
